Armed police respond to Lower Hutt incident

Armed police are looking for people involved in a fight that social media users say included shotguns and machetes in Stokes Valley in Lower Hutt.

Police said they were called to the George Street area at about 3.45pm.

They would not confirm whether shots had been fired but they are searching houses in the area to find the people involved.

Cordons are in place and there are no reports of injuries.

One person on social media said it was a huge group fighting in Delaney Park, which involved shotguns and machetes and that children were in the park at the time.

There have been two gang-related shootings in the suburb in the last few months, but the police would not confirm if this latest incident was also gang-related.
