Fire crews have extinguished a blaze in a central Auckland apartment building, reports Stuff.
Smoke could be seen from the sixth floor of an apartment building in Wakefield Street shortly before 5pm this afternoon.
Fifteen trucks, two support units, a hazardous materials truck and an aerial crane were called to the site, near AUT University.
A witness told Stuff the fire had been extinguished at around 5:30pm.
Firefighters had removed their breathing apparatus and were "quite calm", he said.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said about 50 firefighters responded to the third-alarm call.
The building was evacuated and no one was injured, he said.
It was not yet known what caused the fire.
