One-day road closure for tree removal

A section of Hamilton’s Memorial Dr will be closed tomorrow to allow for the removal of a stand of large trees from Memorial Park.

The trees are blackwood specimens which have died, presenting a risk to park users.

"Their size and height – an estimated 15 metres – means a large crane will be used to remove them from the park. Operation of the crane requires the road closure," says a statement from the Hamilton City Council.

"The section of Memorial Drive to be closed runs from Anzac Pde to Riro St. Residents will have access to their homes, but motorists will need to detour via Grey St and Te Aroha St."

The road closure will be between 9am and 4pm, and has been arranged for this month while traffic flows through the area are lower than usual due to the holiday season.
