UPDATED: Police have established that there are no issues with the unattended item found on Tinakori Road, Wellington.
Cordons were in place along part of the road earlier this morning as a precaution.
"The road is now open," says police.
"Police appreciate the patience and understanding shown by local residents and businesses."
Cordons are in place around a Wellington road and police are asking the public to avoid the area.
In a statement released this morning, police say they are asking the public to avoid Tinakori Road, Wellington.
"Police have been made aware of an unattended item on Tinakori Road around 10:50am today and as a precaution there are cordons in place while the situation is assessed.
"The road has been evacuated between 110 and 246 Tinakori Road, between Hill and Molesworth Streets, and the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice."
