Croquet players brave the heat

Pauline Scott.

Croquet returned to the grass at the Waireka Croquet Club for the first time in 2019 on Saturday, and Pauline Scott was among those who braved the sweltering conditions to play.

While plenty of players turned out at Waireka on Saturday, some of their members were away and in action elsewhere.

In Oamaru Bill Allnutt was playing in the Don Reyland competition play-off, trying to earn the right to be the South Canterbury representative at the national Don Reyland finals in the Thames Valley, but he finished third.

And in Tauranga, three of the club’s youngest members – Edmund Fordyce, Logan McCorkindale and Kaleb Small – were playing at the Croquet New Zealand Association Croquet Championship, where McCorkindale and Fordyce had both made the doubles finals with their playing partners.
