Tuatara draw first blood in Sydney

The Auckland Tuatara drew first blood in their four-game series against the Sydney Blue Sox by claiming a 6-0 win over the Australian Baseball League Northeast division leaders in Sydney.

Starter Stephen Swagerty threw four shut-out innings while giving up a hit and four walks and struck out three through a rain disruption of almost two hours.

Yuki Harada picked up the win by throwing four scoreless innings in relief.

Texas Rangers outfield prospect Eric Jenkins (2-5) drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to put the Tuatara on top. The visitors then added five more runs in the top of the eighth to blow the game open.

Veteran Diamondblacks slugger Daniel Lamb-Hunt (2-4) and Houston Astros infielder Nick Tanielu (3-5) each drove in a pair of runs while Taylor Snyder (1-4) also collected an RBI.

The win was the 11th of the Tuatara’s inaugural season.

The two sides meet again in games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
