A two-year-old girl who was reported missing along with her family's puppy has been found safe and well in bush some 3km from home near Motueka.
The youngster went missing from a property on Little Sydney Road at approximately 4pm yesterday, sparking an an extensive five-hour search by police, Search and Rescue volunteers, neighbours and family, including her parents and grandfather.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nigel McMorran, of the Tasman District Coordination Centre, said: "A Search and Rescue volunteer located them safe and well in the bush, at least 3km away from the family's home.
"The girl and the puppy have been returned to their very relieved family.
"We were inundated with offers from members of the public to help with search this evening in every way possible.
"We extend our sincere gratitude to the local community for their help and support."
The girl and her four-month-old Bulldog-Staffy cross were located at around 11:20pm last night.
