Water rescue at Lake Wakatipu

UPDATED 6.02PM: A police co-ordinated response to a water rescue on Lake Wakatipu is ongoing.

Emergency services were contacted at 1.42pm with a report that two skydivers had landed in the lake, near Jack’s Point.

"We have now ascertained that this was a tandem jump involving two males," says police.

"One person has been recovered from the water and taken to hospital with minor injuries."

A search is under way for the other person.

This involves the Coastguard, the Harbourmaster, water taxis and helicopters.

WorkSafe has also been informed.


Emergency services are responding to a water rescue on Lake Wakatipu.

After being alerted at 1.42pm, police responded to a report of two skydivers landing in the lake, near Jack’s Point.

"Both the Coastguard and the Harbourmaster have been informed.

"Emergency services are now on the lake."
